The entire monastic site at Kilmacduagh is hugely impressive but the round tower really stands out as one of the most impressive buildings. The only entrance to the tower stands at 7 metres above ground and its overall height is over 30 metres making it the highest in Ireland. The tower leans by around half a metre off centre. Saint Colman Mac Duagh founded the monastery here in 610AD. It was one of the wealthiest monasteries of its time and so was attacked many time throughout its history.
