Malahide Castle

Malahide Castle, built in 1185 by Richard Talbot, knight to King Henry II, is one of the oldest and finest examples of a Norman stronghold in Ireland. King Henry II granted the lands and harbour of Malahide to Talbot as a reward for his "war-like" services during the conquering of Ireland. At the Battle of the Boyne, the Talbots sided with the Jacobites and as a result, lost 14 members of the family. All 14 members had met here in Malahide Castle on the morning of the great battle.
