This expansive Cistercian Abbey was founded as a daughter house to Mellifont Abbey in the late 12th century. Not much of the original abbey design survives due to it being transformed into an army barracks under Queen Elizabeth in the late 16th century. It later fell victim to an attack by Cromwellian forces in 1645. Even with this, the Abbey has undergone careful restoration and is an incredible site to behold.
